M21 is a an acronym that stands for Miller 21st Century Learning. Bob Miller Middle School is a proud recipient of the Nevada Ready 21 grant from the Nevada Department of Education and is excited to partner with the State of Nevada in providing a device for every student!
The device is a CTL Chromebook. Chromebooks run Google's Chrome Operating System. Chromebooks are designed to be used primarily while connected to the internet, storing applications and documents in the cloud. Google's vested interest in education provides a variety of benefits for our students!
What are the benefits for my student? Your student will utilize a GoogleEDU account provided by CCSD that will allow for unlimited storage within the cloud. Students at Bob Miller Middle School will also receive a Chromebook that they will have access to 24 hours a day. Included in this plan is a comprehensive suite of educational cloud based software.
The world has embraced the digital age and education is changing to reflect the value of membership in a global community. The M21 project is a comprehensive approach in blending technology and excellence in education. Bob Miller Middle School recognizes our responsiblility to prepare our students to lead their generation in the world of tomorrow.
Our top priority at Miller is keeping your child safe. In attaining this goal, Miller has built safe search into every Chromebook. Safe search works by blocking inappropriate and explicit video and images from Google Search result pages, along with results that might link to explicit content on campus and at your home. Safe search will be locked and set to the highest level of security on every device provided by our school. All students will have access to a variety of apps and extensions that have been deemed educationally valuable.
Students may request access to additional apps and extensions via our Miller21 Committee.
All stakeholders share the responsibility of making this initiative a success. The M21 Committee is currently developing policies and procedures to support our staff, students, and parents in effectively utilizing technology to bridge excellence in education to innovation. As the 2016-2017 school year approaches, more detailed information will be provided.
